That's so gay!
"That Movie was gay." - Stupid
"Let us all be Gay and Merry!" - Festive
"You are so gay!!" - Homosexual
The use of proper word structures is key to any language as there are many languages that have a handful of meanings for one word (Japanese are horrible with this)
"Bad Dog!!" - Negative/Disciplinary
"That was Bad!!" - Awesome!!
"You are such a Bad girl." - Sexual
words are only words until you put them in context.

You realize that you are discussing this with a person who thinks that there is no "good", no "bad" merely "IS", right?
lol...
I dont think, although I could be wrong, that since the conversation became more focused, (I dont think I said it at all, but, I have been wrong before, lol), that I have said that it is "bad"...
I only said I find the trait "undesirable" in myself...
And to be honest, others, but, I am merely having a discussion with you to determine whether my own opinion still holds water...
I find it an undesireable trait in others as it seems to show a lack of apathy... Wouldnt you agree?
I also find to be easily offended a undesirable trait, but we both agree on that one, so we let it go, lolol...

Why is it OK for "bad" to mean what it now means, but not for "gay" to mean this as well?

Cause we are now, and 'bad' happened when we cared less for the thoughts of others...
Now as caring people, not only do we need to be conscious of our effects on the envirnment, but also on our fellow humans...
Wait, are you wanting 'gay' to mean 'ultimate in cool'? As in "One gay-ass motherf*cker"? (there are many issues with those last words, ignore them, and move to the point,)

Because when that verbiage of "bad" was first used, being 'close-minded' was permissible...
Blacks were subhumans, and the china-man was some weird secret society...
We have come a long way since then, striving to improve ourselves...
"Bad" being used in this manner was the past, and we can do nothing to alter it at this point...
But we can affect words now-a-days to some degree... At least within certain societies or communities...

yet enforcement of a minority's wishes onto the majority is a violation of their freedom of conscience and speech. It's also true the other way around... If you do not allow people to say "gay" is bad, then who's to guarantee that people will have a right to say "gay" is good? Because, I don't know if you've noticed, but in the world we currently live in (and we live in the part that is the most "free" and educated), homosexuals are far from universally liked... In France the government tried to silence and severely punish people who were protesting gay marriage... If the government can oppress someone for their views, it can oppress anyone for their views... And with the way things are going over there, believe me the next government will be the gay-hating foreigner-hating kind. And the oppressed will become the oppressor.(yet again)

This is why I am not saying that anyone cannot, I am only saying how I feel...
And, seemingly, the majority of the Jedi community...

Sure, its a cycle...
Hopefully, each turn of the cycle, will be less oppressed than the previous...
The reality will be they will just find a new reason, or person to oppress....
But, the majority being of one opinion, doesnt make it right...
Force will not change peoples mind, education will... But until it is learned, all we have is force... I am curious exactly who were 'forced and imprisoned'... Did they bomb clinics as their form of free expression, picket protest and plug up the access to businesses? Or, did they simply hand out fliers and chat on the internet?
More information is needed, lol...

"In a society that does not discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation"
If someone is using the phrase "That's So Gay", in the context of something negative,
(which let's face it is what Arcade was talking about when he started the thread)
that means that they are viewing homosexuality as negative, and hence discriminating on the basis of sexual orientation.
Use of the phrase goes against the morals of the temple at the end of the day, and I don't think that we (as jedi) should be using the phrase in this respect, shouldn't we be leading by example and trying to set a standard of Love, Compassion and Acceptance. ?

To have an opinion, negative or positive, doesnt necessarily lead to discrimination. I don't see homosexuality as a discrimination against heterosexuality, yet, clearly, homosexuals do not like heterosexual relationships (if they did they'd be having them, so they'd at least be bi)
How many here can honestly say they like or dislike gay sex? (as in: have actually done it?)
And for the record, since we're going to be quoting the doctrine, it also says this:
" In the ethic of reciprocity, and how moral concepts are not absolute but vary by culture, religion, and over time."
" In the importance of freedom of conscience and self-determination within religious, political and other structures."
outquoted.
