I am a guitarist as well. What fascinates me is how could something like this work?

Fairly easily. You get a rough sample of what you're looking for and share it with everyone. Start your recording with the percussion (if you have that part) or bass (if you have that part), then move on to the instrumentalists, then the vocalists. All parts go to one person who mixes them and then overlays them onto the video and bam...there you go. It's a very lengthy, time consuming process but very doable. I haven't done this type of stuff yet...all i've done are mixing vocal recordings or mixing videos, but it wouldn't take me that much time to learn how to do everything together.

Depending on the recording equipment everyone has depends on how all of this is done.

~Record into an audio interface or through a computer mic while filming and then edit out the sound from the video

~Record into an audio interface or through a computer mic and then video record yourself playing along and then edit out the sound from the video

~Record yourself on video and the audio person works to improve the audio in the video (I can extract audio from video and apply effects and edit out outside noise...though it is preferred to try to record in as quiet a place as possible).

I'll actually work up a video tonight on how I do my stuff and show you my desk and recording equipment. I don't expect everyone to have the stuff I have, which is why I listed all options for being able to make this work.

Oh, hi, I didn't see your post. Being a former sound tech, I think we found our audio guy. Thank you for volunteering  :woohoo:

I'm still learning audio mixing so having someone with more experience under their belt is better. Once again, i'm SOOOOO glad you volunteered :P

Well, I really wanted to do a "metal"-ish version of "Nil Se'n la" by Celtic woman. It's vocal range is good and there's a lot of room for guitar work as well as piano and whatever anyone wants to contribute. And would be a good three-five part harmony peace on the chorus and such.

Lol. I agree! Let's just do our best and go for it! If it sucks in the end then so be it, at least we tried. And the second time would likely be better as we get used to the others' styles

Lol. Yep! It's pretty simple really. Its just a game of tag with tracks and they build on each other until you have an entire song with all the pars.

I've been thinking about this thread for a while.

I personnaly always wanted to make a new age album. What if we combined our energies, ideas and song writing abilities to make a temple album.

Something along the line of relaxation, meditation and soft lyrical songs with meaning.

There would be instrumental music as well as lyrical music.

I already have an instrumental composition that I could and would dedicate to the album. In the end it can be recorded in one place with the singer of our choice if we want it to sound really good. But it would be a collaberation of its members.

Just another deep thought.

I would love to submit an ambient track for an album like this. My issue right now is time, so such a submission and my overall involvement would unfortunately hinge on how much I have going on offline.
