Donkey, I have seen both of these threads, and recently participated in the latter. And while tempers ran short and emotions got in the way a little I see no cause for the banning of anyone. Yes, members of all ranks posted things that weren't calm or well thought out, and mayhaps even disrespectful. The people in those threads however, were not doing the same thing as Maynoth. You cannot compare these cases because they are completely different. If you can find someone else who repeatedly pushes their beliefs and attempts to discredit the beliefs of others to further their religion or spiritual cause, that might constitute as proof.

I was one of the people that was uncomfortable. Did you not notice that? Since the thread on Misogyny things have seemed to get better. I think of this Temple as a home to me. The people who were debating back and forth with each other have had pleasant, productive and meaningful exchanges back and forth since the threads you talk about. We learned from our experiences. So yes, it was a heated exchange that addressed some important issues and served its purpose.
You also completely ignored my point that your proof, did not have much to do with your point at all. The "proof" you cited has very little in common with Maynoth's situation and as such is not very valid in furthering your point.

Donkey,
Genuinely, I hope you take Jester up on his offer for communication.
Also, i invite you to take some time with the Jedi Creed, written in the spirit of the St. Francis Prayer. In and of itself . . . it is a pointer to a transformative journey within, which is an ongoing journey of self responsibility and self awareness.
I hope you do stay and take the journey within. If you do leave . . . I hope you continue the journey of going within.
No matter where I go . . there i am.
May you have the full experience of the temple within!

I have to say that, while I got along fine with Maynoth in chat and on Skype, I did get a little tired of his constant harping about certain things. He did come across as disrespectful. I seem to recall him referring to all of us here at TOTJO as "close-minded people with their heads up their asses" (or something to that effect) several times. He even called out individuals in this manner as well. Mind you, he did this in PM on Skype, not in a PM to those individuals as one would expect a mature Jedi to do when there was some disagreement. He's just one of those people that thinks he is right and everyone else's way of doing things is inferior. That sort of thing always rubs me the wrong way, I don't know about all of you.
I don't know if he deserved a permanent ban, it isn't my right to judge that. As for me, I trust and respect the Council and feel they do the right thing for the good of us all in general. This isn't an appeal to authority either. If I had a legitimate issue with the Council I would say so. I'm far too independent to simply follow the leader simply because they are declared "the leader."

Certain topics will get heated...
This is to be expected...
Dont participate in the threads that bother you... I did not participate in the "Misogyny" thread.. It wasnt my cup of tea...
And, if you feel a post is offensive, there is the "report post" button... We do get those from time to time... We mods cannot be everywhere, so if there is a issue, a little self policing might be needed...
Do I agree with every motion taken by my fellow Council members? No... But, as a team, I support their right to act in manner they think appropriate, and I will discuss these differences of opinion in private... As to not put anyone on the spot, cause an uproar, and look like there is dissention in the Temple...
No one is permanently banned... This is the internet after all, lol...
Maynoth knows how to reach me and has been told to feel free to contact me if he wishes to return...
We have let many members return, one just recently, so she could post in a thread where she was being discussed...
And weirdly, no one seems to know why she was banned, lol...
If you are in a face to face conversation, and the person you are talking to will not 'just stop', then there are options to walk away, hang up the phone, and such... In this environment, I look at banning as just such a tool...
And Donkey, my offer is sincere... We do what we can to help everyone fit in...
Just as most other groups do...
But, not every site (in this case) is for every one...
I left the Christian ways because I didnt like how things operated... And there will be those who do not like how things are with being a Jedi... Or at least how TOTJO sees them...
If people do not like TOTJO's ways, they are welcome to find other sites that might be more to their liking...
If they dont like the belief system of the Jedi at all, well, there are other paths...
All are welcome, but not all will feel welcome... Or just plain fit in...

IMHO I think too much is being made out of this. The folks around here do a fine job managing the forum and I am gratefull to them.

I didn't come to an internet website to (please forgive my antarctican) circle jerk about peace and happiness. I'm here to challenge myself.
Granted, I know nothing about the current arguments, so I can't speak to them.

Donkey wrote: "maybe disrespectful"? interesting
people express the idea that they feel uncomfortable in this space and you chalk it up to a heated exchange? interesting.
