"Now You Know" -Baphomet
The image we see here is most commonly seen as a Demonic/Satanic symbol. What if i told you The Baphomet was actually a symbol representing harmony with the cosmos and unified higher understanding....
The Baphomet we recognize today is a winged goat with a masculine torso and breast; he has a blazing torch between his horns and cloven feet. Adding to the confusion, one arm is male and the other is female - all in all making this creature out to be a terrifying symbol inspiring maliciousness and fright.
The Baphomet symbol was recently illustrated by occultist Eliphas Levi for his book "Dogmas and Rituals of High Magic". It reflects a number of principles considered fundamental to occultists, and was influenced by Hermeticism, Kabbalah, and alchemy, among other sources which can be seen with-in the symbol itself. However the Baphomet was first described by the Knights Templar around the twelfth century as a symbol of protection used by traveling pilgrims traveling to and from Jerusalem, for The Knights were exempt from taxation. Even though this symbol was intended as protection, during their acquired power, The Knights Templar became a threat to the establishment. They under went severe persecution by the pope and were charged with accusations of heresy, which included the blasphemous worship a particular goat-headed creature....
In conclusion once i stumbled upon this information, i felt obligated to share this for the sake of settling misguided information, considering my own ignorance to the subject i figured very few people were aware of this. I hope you will look at all symbols not for what they might have originally been intended for and not what they have been perverted to be.

"It first appeared in 11th and 12th century Latin and Provençal as a corruption of "Mahomet", the Latinisation of "Muhammad",[1] but later it appeared as a term for a pagan idol in trial transcripts of the Inquisition of the Knights Templar in the early 14th century."
"Since 1856, the name Baphomet has been associated with a "Sabbatic Goat" image drawn by Eliphas Lévi."

Peter is believed to have been crucified upside down at his own request, as he did not feel worthy to die the same way as Jesus. Therefore many Christian sects use this cross as a symbol of humility. He was an early missionary in Asia Minor and the Roman Empire and founded the Church of Rome with Paul. Emperor Nero saw this new church as a threat, and began a campaign to eradicate these troublemakers. Peter was imprisoned, tortured and finally crucified. Such was his faith, it is believed, that he remarkably succeeded in persuading his sadistic captors to change from the normal way of executing prisoners. His brother, Andrew, also was crucified, and he too requested that a cross different to Christ's Latin Cross be used. Therefore we have another cross form, the "X" shaped St. Andrew's Cross. St. Peter is also often remembered through the Celtic Cross.
Many anti-Christian groups use the upside down cross as a perversion of the standard cross in their symbolism. And you can find Andrews cross all throughout the bondage world.
I think it’s quite possible that the symbols we recognize today have been given more familiarity by their opponent’s than the groups which use them.

Desolous wrote: pretty sure baphomet was first recognized as a deity in the 1st century AD, after the birth of Pan, the sheep god. once added to the greek pantheon, he became a standard fixture in greek shipping vessels seeking his protection and guidance on their travels. soon added to ports of call of greeks ships as 'the merry trickster' we all know and love today, the evil tinge was only added in the the 1920's, the golden era of silent films, as a lot of bad guys dressed up as baphomet for some reason. in reality, he remains a benevolent and goat headed dude.

 Made me giggle. What couldn't have been entirely made up in life? If you look at most of the information surrounding us how much of it is actually true?
As for Baphomet, aren't a lot of ancient deities known today as evil? I hear that a lot of Demons were actually deities of the past and the church twisted their names into things of evil to keep people loyal to the church.
