Joanne Maleki Jones, a Jedi who is also the cousin of Daniel Jones (founder of the Church of Jediism in the UK), is in dire need of help, and is at the point of desperation. For those who don't know, she has secondary cancers (plural) running through her system and it has now shown up on her liver.

Knowing what I know of the metastasis process (the way that cancer spreads), Joanne has very little time left to obtain treatment. She is being extremely brave. But to obtain the treatments which might help extend her life in the US or Mexico, she needs £30000 in short order. Failure to obtain this help will most certainly be lethal.

In this time of exceeding financial stress worldwide, this kind of a request can't come at a good time. I'm hoping she is able to be cured. But if she can't, I hope she can overcome the obvious fear she's feeling about death. She will be separated from her family and doesn't want to leave her daughter's father a single dad with a pile of unpaid debts. If anyone could help, that would be brilliant.

And in addition to money, prayer (sending the intent to have her healed) would be beneficial.

Her web site contains further details.

2010-02-1912:23:51 If she is in the UK - she ought to get treatment on the NHS.

If her local health authority are making claims or excuses not to provide a certain treatment - the threat of 'bad publicity' via press and legal action viea europe (Human rights etc) usually get the treatemtns provided.

The sad fact is that the NHS is NOT a bottomless money bag and decisions have to be made daily that effectively decide who lives and who dies. I appreciate she wont feel like fighting - but those around her can and should fight for her.

Another ption is to go to france, or holland etc - get the treatment and they then forward the bill to the UK ;) - one of the few advantages of beig in europe I can think of ;)

All that aside - I wish her well

2010-02-1918:45:24 From the sounds of it, the NHS has done all it can, and essentially told her she's a lost cause. The treatments she would be undergoing in these other clinics are highly controversial, but there are a good number of options which they don't offer even in "standard" medicine in the US.

The two clinics she's talking about are specific to cancer patients, and (rightfully) claim to cure 35% of all "incurable" cancers. But the core issue remains that she's not got a lot of time to get treatment before even they wouldn't be able to take her… as it is, she's risking her life just traveling.

France and Holland are both "standard" medical options, where the clinics in California and Mexico that she's talking about aren't. They simply do not offer the treatments she needs.

I meant: "outside of those clinics" on the end of that (oh, for an editing function!).

2010-03-2106:28:01 It must take an interesting type of person to make the decision on who lives and who dies. I would much enjoy meeting one of these people. The socialized health care in Europe intrigues me as the US moves closer in that direction.

I think my next career move will be towards becoming a Grim Reaper of sorts. When my family comes up for review on worth I can skew the numbers and protect my own; and just make sure I sentence enough folks to death to keep my superiors happy.

I'm surprised that she wants to travel here for "experimental treatment" that isn't offered there as part of their coverage. Yet, we push forward head first into removing these options from our own citizens.

Good luck to her with what time she has left. I pray that she lived a happy and productive life and I apologize on behalf of those who would cut her life short due to profits.

If we should cross paths in the darkness… I can only offer a thanks for refusing to give up.
